Search for Senior Vice President and General Counsel

November 18, 2015

Members of the Rutgers Community,

I am writing to inform you that Monica C. Barrett, Interim Senior Vice President and General Counsel, has accepted a partnership in the Higher Education Practice Group of a prominent law firm in Manhattan, and she will be departing Rutgers in January 2016. I cannot express how grateful I am to Monica for the exceptional job she has done over the years, in particular, in her leadership role as Interim Senior Vice President and General Counsel. Please join me in congratulating Monica on being recruited for this exciting and prestigious position, and in wishing her all the best in her future endeavors.

A search for the position of Senior Vice President and General Counsel for Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey, is already under way. I have asked Senior Vice President for Academic Affairs Barbara Lee to chair the search committee, which is composed of senior administrators from around the University. The successful candidate will report directly to me and will serve as the chief legal officer for the University, including the Rutgers boards, president, senior officers, and other officials and units. Ideally, the successful candidate will have an expertise in healthcare law in an academic setting.

The University has retained a well-established higher education search firm, Academic Search, Inc., to assist us, led by its vice president and senior consultant, William F. Howard, who is a former university general counsel. I anticipate completing the process and selecting a candidate by the end of the calendar year.

Sincerely,

Bob Barchi
